This season I have decided to take the plunge and sort out the air brake equipment on my Bachmann Mk1s. However…I’ve not been able to find out the definitive sizes for the air reservoir tank. I appear to have used a variety of cast and resin tanks on earlier models which range from scale 12" dia to 18" dia and length of scale 3’ to 4.5’. I only have a couple of half decent phtoos I can refer to (and I don’t have a local preserved railway I can drop in to with my measuring stick).
One of our members posted on the old Forum some photos of the 3D printed air brake equipment they had printed out but unfortunately I didn’t keep a copy. So any advice would be greatly received. Of course, once weathered up and under the chassis, none of the A/B equipment will be seen.
Size wise they don’t look too bad and I think these of one of their better efforts. I’d still be interested in knowing the correct sizing though… and whether it varies!
Sorry only just seen this, I’ve only just signed upto the new forum. I’m Daryl, aka Midland Valenta on eBay. My air tank was measured from 6311 many years ago. The tank is 14.1mm by 5mm (3’6" by 15").
I will post more info/ photos in the next few days.
Thanks Daryl. I’ve got it more or less as you’ve noted, although the Evergreen tube is 5.5mm due to the imperial sizes they use (3/16" I think). A bit of sanding down is needed to fit between the trussing and the air distributor (although I do replace the horrible Bachmann one).
